Exceptional Ski Jacket When Layered with Base Layers

This jacket fit perfectly and offered a lightweight and durable jacket for my Colorado ski trip. It is thin and worked best when paired with level 1 and level 2 base layers for warmth. The only time I got “cold” was when I was sitting on the ski lift headed up to the peaks of Breckenridge and Keystone when the wind was brutal… not sure if any other jacket would have stopped the cold from getting through. For reference, I am 5’9’’ and 200 pounds with broad shoulders, and the large fit me perfectly. The temps in Colorado during my time there was single digits to mid 20s (Fahrenheit). This jacket works best paired with strong thermal under-layers, but is an exceptional lightweight ski jacket.

Perfect do it all Shell

I was concerned about the thickness of the material when I first got it. it seemed thin and could possibly tear, but I have put this shell to the test on long tours scraping trees and brush and it hasn't shown any wear. My only complaint is that I wish the powder belt sinched a hair tighter.

Great shell jacket

I'm about a month into wearing this as my daily ski jacket. A good quality shell like this one gives me the ability to change from thick and thin puffys underneath depending on our NE ski weather. The jacket is tough enough to take the knocks, but light enough to move well as I ski. The hood is big enough for a ski helmet, although a little more hood-room would be great. Overall fit is good. I'm 6"1', 190lbs and the large gives me just enough room for a few layers without feeling at all baggy. Love the color - very trendy this year!

This rain jacket is super versatile. The hood portion that you can tighten so it conforms to your head while you work allows the jacket to do its job. I am able to wear a layer underneath to help keep me warm. This is a really good rain jacket, the price point is good considering the quality, give it a try, you wont regret it!

Lived up to its name, kept me dry, and was as light as advertised. Definitely my go to for most wet applications. Have not tested it yet on wear over time, however I’ve only had it for one season.

Great Fit for someone tall and skinny, allows for layers underneath without looking boxy and oversized. Its keeping me dry in this wet weather we have been having in Whistler and Vancouver.

Great jacket

Jacket keeps me very dry, but is very breathable compared to other jackets. Recommend the pertex over gortex for breathability while ski touring. The venting works well, the powder skirt is very nice. The hood fits well with a helmet on, and the double zipper is nice to access the jacket from the bottom. The jacket is perfect for ski touring and resort riding, and will keep you dry in stormy conditions too.

Rock Solid!

This is a awesome light weight rain shell. BONUS: Full length pit zips go all the way to the bottom of the jacket for excellent ventilation.

I do think this is darn good jacket. I mostly used this jacket on the mountain resorts. I wanted a shell and this is just that, I can add or subtract layers to complement my needs for downhill and while riding the lift it keeps the wind at bay. The amount of vents are great and there are pockets for days. I do wish the cuffs were a bit more stretchy so the Velcro wrap would be snug against gloves or just the wrist. The shoulders could have some gussets or more flex. The hood could use a compartment for it to be stowed in for days when it's not needed. I really liked the arm pocket for my lift pass as not all RFID scanners truly work with the "keep pass in left chest pocket" system.

I love this jacket. We have had a great ski season @ Snowmass. I ski a lot. I do not have any suggestions for improvement as the jacket fits well and the features fit my expectations. OR quality and customer service matches the best in the industry

Works incredibly well, The bibs fit very well too but its definitely better with layers bc it fits a little loose without them, but a few layers underneath and zero water or wind gets through. Zippers are solid and all the vents work very well Highly recommend!

Great gear, very breathable but also waterproof. I have been skiing in 20 degrees to 50 degree weather and it has preformed great in both, it is light/roomy(but not too roomy) so you can choose to scale your layering accordingly without hinderance. You can count on this bib, well worth the money good job OR. I am 6'2 205lbs and I went with size large.

My Choce For Warmer Alpine Ski Days

If I know the day at the resort is going to reach over 20 deg F, I'll pick this shell over my insulated ski jacket for the versatility it gives me to layer. With plenty of pockets, powder skirt, key clip, ability to control ventilation (pit zips, mesh chest pockets) this shell has all of the features I look for in a downhill shell. Originally I got this for Spring skiing, but with Colorado resort temperatures being all over the place so far this winter, I have used the Carbide jacket a couple of times already.

Plenty of pockets that are well placed. Fit is perfect, and vents are nice. I wore a patagonia puffer jacket under it and I stayed warm and dry all day without getting sweaty. Much lighter and less "swooshy" than other shells I've had in the past. Great for a day on the slopes.

Wind- and water-proof with lots of pockets

I live in the Boston area, and I use this as my winter jacket. I thought this was going to be a little bit thicker than it is, so I just use a polyester zip-up underneath it when it's extra cold outside. That could just be a "me problem" thought, I don't tolerate the cold weather as well as others. I love all of the pockets, the velcro wrist cuffs, and the flexibility of the jacket. It's super lightweight, and even though it's windproof and waterproof, I never feel sweaty and gross in it.

Perfect for touring

Everything about it is great. Perfect for uphill ascents, doesn't get too hot and the zip up hood is handy when the wind and snow pick up. Pais well with the carbide bibs and echo hoody! Have worn this at the resort as well, but for sure need to pair it with a warm later underneath. Good wind protection, and very water resistant/proof. You can't go wrong with this jacket.

Durable and very light

I have put this jacket through too more branches than any outerwear should see and have not cuts or tears to show for it. I am most often on a snowmobile through wooded trails with this coat. I wear it ski touring wear it takes on alot of branches too. Awesome ripstop fabric. I am 6'-0" tall, 165lbs and xl fits great. I like looser fits and this size achieves that.

Bombproof as always for OR

Love this jacket. Very breathable, but completely watertight. Used in front country and backcountry skiing thus far and it's performed amazingly. Nothing other than what I've come to expect from OR.

Great lightweight jack

I've used this jacket all winter, mostly backcountry in Lake Tahoe but I put in a few resort days with it. Packs down well in the backpack. Comfortable, with good vents when needed. Great fit. No complaints. And the price point on the this jacket is great. There are burlier jackets for more aggressive pursuits but for an everyday jacket, it serves the purpose.

Almost made the mark

Expert Recommendation Content This jacket IS, lightweight, windproof, waterproof and breathable. Wore it on a 27F day, heavy snow and wind. Had a merino base LS and a thin polartec ML, no issues with warmth or remaining cool/dry. So, my initial impression after a day at Kirkwood, with heavy blowing snow and boot deep powder; But 1st my stats; I am 5’11”, 215lbs and carry a good portion of weight in my belly. I wear a standard 36x32 pants in most things (Levi’s, 686 snow pants, Patagonia stormstride pants, etc…) typical a Large size jacket, tshirt, etc. I purchased a Large-black/storm color jacket. The fit in the shoulders, chest, arm length, torso length, all great, perfect fit. However, since the jacket length comes down past the wasteline and to the middle of my behind, it’s tight! Everywhere except the bottom hem of the jacket fits great!! Not sure I’m willing to try an XL, because I think it would be huge everywhere else. It wasn’t enough to impede movement while skiing, but on the lift I could tell it was stretched when I sat down. Zippers are easy to use, armpit vents are great with two way zippers! Internal chest pocket and chest pockets fit my iPhone 12 perfectly. Arm pockets are ample and easily stowed my glove liners and my goggle sock without bulging. Only a 4 star because of the fit on my behind, otherwise GREAT jacket!
