Very warm and lightweight parka

I love how light this parka is. The down filling is very airy and hasn't compressed much since owning it. I use this jacket for ice climbing into the single digit temps (F) an have been comfortable. I like how packable it is and how light the jacket is.

Great parka

Very comfortable. I like that the large feels like a large tall. Outside in single digits for hours and stayed warm. I like the stuff sack attached to the inside pocket so I can stow it in the pack if I get too warm.

Great fit, extremely warm

Fits true to size, plenty of room for a helmet. I’ve only worn it out in the cold a bit to see how it heats up. Will update when I get a chance to test this more thoroughly.

Fantastic Coat!

My unit got issued these when we were overseas. Down to -40F it was tolerable with a base layer and watch cap. Wind didn't cut through and it didn't limit flexibility as much as our 3 layer parkas. It was bulky, but we were doing admin stuff so it was a pretty neutral concern at the time. When it comes to extreme cold every day, this is the coat to get.

Summit approved

Used when we got to the summit of Mt. Rainier. Extremely warm and great for extreme weather. I got a medium to fit under my goretex top but otherwise I would get a large (my normal size in clothes) for normal wear. Like others said it does run bigger than normal but I would still get the size I always have. I am 6ft, 165lbs.

Very decent belay parka with a few issues

Overall is a decent heavy weight (M - 846gr) parka. Fits well over layers, packs relatively decently using a compression sack (not included). Belaying for couple of hours on an ice climb - you will be warm and cozy. Negatives: 1. No real box baffles - I was expecting it from such weight/price parka. It's using second outer layer instead - can be waist of weight. 2. No bottom button to close lower part when you unzip for belaying. 3. Included stuff sack is HUGE and doesn't let you to compress at all.

Perfect Winter Parka

I've used this jacket for a couple winters now and it has been fantastic. It is not an activewear type jacket and hiking will get you sweating. I would recommend this for someone who is doing light activity 20-30 degree weather and wants to maintain a comfortable temperature. It packs down very small for being a parka and has a little stuff sack it fits into. I typically will wear with just a normal shirt (minimal base layering) and it am pretty comfortable. This would definitely get the job done in colder environments with proper layering. The hood is extremely warm and is roomy if you wanted to wear a beanie in conjunction with the hood. Zippers are high quality and rarely snag the coat material. Pockets have good depth and keep your hands warm as well. You don't need to wear gloves if you plan to use the pockets. I have not had much, if any, down come out of the jacket after two seasons of use. The jacket also covers halfway up my face fully zipped up so it can also act a little as a gaiter. Best winter jacket I have ever owned.

This jacket is super warm.

Avid climber and hater of the cold. This jacket fits true to size. You do not need to size up. I bought a medium. 5'9" 175 muscular build, fits great. I wear medium and have multiple jackets from arteryx, patagonia and OR. Only fault is that the length of the jack causes slight tension on the zipper, and you have to reset the zipper back down in order to unzip the jacket. I don't think it is avoidable with a jacket this purposefully long.

Great Jacket

First time buying a parka but well worth it, the jacket is very warm and well made. Love the pouch it has inside jacket to pack it away in a small pouch when traveling. Hood is also nice due to it being larger for helmet capability or thick beanies.

The Sleeping Bag Jacket

I like this jacket - it is a little oversized but thats on purpose I think as this to me is a super cold jacket. When its down below 15F this is my go to - and below 0F I can use my helium jacket as a base layer under it for a warmth factor like a double paned window. I was worried this would be "too big" - and it does fit larger than size, but its probably closer in style to a Canada Goose jacket than a regular puffy (I have no idea about their sizing, just saying the style/look seems equivalent). One reviewer described this as a "sleeping bag" of a jacket - thats a good analogy. It keeps you wamr as if you are bundled up in a 0 degree sleeping bag. I like it - glad I purchased. 5'10, 160lbs got a medium which I am happy with.

Have gone to just my base layer this parka and outer shell for all alpine ski adventures. Only issue is now I occasionally get too warm. Mostly skiing in the Northwest at 6-8 thousand feet in all wind conditions.

Best Down Parka

I absolutely love this parka. It's awesome as a belay parka, it packs away small enough to work very well for winter backpacking, and it's warm and casual enough that I wear it to work on extremely cold days. The second zipper and how the fabric moves makes it perfect for belaying during ice climbing, and the down makes it pack incredibly light and small. The fit and insulated hood make it perfect for wearing as an extra warm layer for wearing around town in the snow or extreme cold. I typically wear a medium but to fit this over any other layers I sized up to a large and it's perfect without being too long.

Warm Jacket

I rated this high since it is my first down jacket and met my expectations. The jacket is warm in negative temperatures. I have primary used it for walks or snowshoeing. I would agree with other reviewers that the jacket runs large. I have not experienced any durability issues.

Super Warm!

This big parka is incredibly warm for the weight and it packs down nicely into the bad provided. Note, this fits larger than many other OR jackets. The extra room is perfect to throw over layers. However, if you are looking for an athletic/slim cut then you should look elsewhere.

Very Warm

I bought this jacket to teach winter camping. There's lots of down time of not moving as we discuss lessons. At night, it gets cold sitting around the snow kitchen. I throw this over my outer layer whenever I stop moving and keeps me toasty - it has yet to disappoint. Like wearing a sleeping bag as a jacket.

Great jacket, keeps me warm when the temps are below 10F in Alaska. Nice coverage for the face For sizing, I'm 5'10" 180 lbs and the medium is a good fit with room for a shell and light layers underneath underneath.

Tough material, handles use and abuse dog mushing in interior Alaska, often complain about it being too warm rather than not warm enough. Great jacket at a super reasonable price point

Warm belay jacket

I bought this as a belay jacket for ice/alpine climbing and it’s worked out great in its first season. It’s quite warm, though I haven’t used it in windy conditions. The fit is appropriately generous to go over your gear and helmet (I bought a large and am 5’10”, 170lbs). It also zips from top and bottom to make harness access and belaying easier. Overall, I’m happy with this jacket and the price point is fantastic.

Nice jacket, not enough insulation on top of shoulders.

Overall very good. Agree with other reviews that it does run a little big. I have another OR jacket in XL, and this one in Large. Design, fit, and construction seem good with small exception that top of the shoulders does not retain enough insulation.

It’s supposed to be big

This is a alpine belay jacket. It is meant to be worn over other layers and ride lower than a typical puffy. Great jacket, love it.

Super warm and great wind/drizzle protection

This jacket is actually really good. Tougher outer material is a nice change from other brands I have had. Probably my 12th down jacket I’ve owned in 30 years and the best one yet.

Prefect belay jacket

Big warm sleeping bag of a jacket. I’m right in between small and medium. I got the medium so I could put it on over all my other layers. It’s great for that which makes it slightly big when worn on its own. The zipper can be a bit stubborn with gloves or cold fingers, but all in all it a great piece.

Super warm, fit is off for me

The coat is beyond warm! Perfect for ice fishing in Northern MI. Only reason I downgraded was because of how the coat fits me specifically. Around the shoulders, it's a little wide. A lot of clothing is like this for me, so it is not a knock on OR at all. If you have narrower shoulders, this will feel a little bulky up top.

Its the Jacket, for the purpose

So far so great, about a month of owning it so far. My go to for the parking lot dawn patrol meeting, cold grocery runs and a bit of winter shenanigans. Im 5'9" 160 lbs and can get away with this as a single layer or over my ski jacket and puffy when I am stuck in the cold. Packs down pretty well (not as much as the transcendent, but I am satisfied thus far). Really only good things to say right now, Perfect multipurpose parka.

Sizing

First of all, this jacket is very well made and comfortable. It seems like it would be a great cold weather piece. Sizing: I own several OR jackets/shirts. All of them are size XL & fit great. I am 6'4" - 210 lbs. This jacket does not fit me at all.. it's extremely large compared to the other XLs that I own from OR.
