Surprising

Very light weight. Packing compressed it a lot and it took a couple days for it to expand out. My first time wearing it was in 30 degrees and it kept me very warm. I am 5'6" and a large was a good fit for me, especially for arm length. I am a little concerned about longevity because of how light weight it is, but time will tell on that. Material and stitching are top notch and the jacket is very comfortable to wear. I HATE the feeling of gortex and this has more of silky feel inside and out, which is perfect. For a general use winter jacket this is perfect.

Extremely warm and comfortable. Used it hiking and backpacking in Alaska with no problems. Also looks good enough to use during cold days where you just want to wear 1 layer.

Great for the price, cuffs

Love the coat. At 5'11" 148 lbs the small is great and has room to layer. Only complaint is the cuff. My wife got the same coat and the cuffs on the women's coat are different and far superior! The men's cuff is a basic elastic ring. The women's has a proper cuff a few inches wide that is elastic and soft fabric. I'm using the coat for casual use and the occasional ski/snowboard day.

Love the fit and design

Very light jacket in terms of weight. Doesn’t deliver a ton of warmth despite its size so I’d use it with a fleece layer underneath. Love the fit and the OR black logo looks great on the sleeve

It was a good deal for a down jacket. Keeps the body and head warm. Light weight. Little longer than I really wanted since it comes down to my butt.

This jacket keeps me more than warm enough on the resort down to single digit temps. It layers great and has a large hood, big enough to fit over a helmet. The material is stronger than expected but will still tear if caught on trees or rocks. Very comfortable puffer, great for anyone during the winter season.

OR Does NO Wrong

OR is just perfect gear. This down hoodie is no exception. Unbelievably warm, perfect fit and sheds water and wind like nothing. I’m 5’9” 175lbs, medium works perfect. Room enough for a little bit of layering but probably size up if you want a ton. Not too bulky but not teeny either. Just right. Great for PNW winters and anytime you just want some extra cozy. Who wants cozy? You do, that’s who.

Great around-town down jacket. I mostly used this piece when hanging around ski hills or when the temps dipped below freezing around the city. I found I could get away with a t-shirt and this jacket above 20 degrees - and I even run cold. Highly recommend this piece as an everyday winter essential if you live in an area with a colder climate. Heads up that the jacket comes compressed in the packaging then takes a day or two to fully gain its loft.

Fantastic jacket

Great jacket and plenty warm enough for even the coldest days. Wore it out in below 0 in West Yellowstone this winter while snowmobiling and it worked flawlessly. 10 out of 10 recommend it if you’re needing a great jacket. The zipper is sturdy which is a plus. Runs true to size and is warm enough where you don’t have to put on so many bulky layers underneath this jacket. Outdoor Research did it right with this jacket.

Super warm good price

Warm, durable and a great deal, most of the or jackets tend to be on the short side this is not good fit and true to size, great for camping, I like to wear it when I wash my car on cold days, stays dry and keeps me dry !

A+

Awesome jacket! Super warm and very comfortable on limbs. Water resistant for light rain or snow (which is indicated) and is also effective. Very wind resistant as well which is great. Zipper rests well near my chin/face and is even more comfortable with hood up.

The jacket fits very well and is extremely warm. The hood zipp rolls inward a little bit digging slightly into my neck or I would rate this jacket a perfect 5 star

Aboslutley Favortire for below 30

Expert Recommendation Content Lets start off with I am not out traversing glaciers anymore so don't look here for cool pics of crazy activities. But we did have some (finally) cold snaps dropping into the 20's, and this jacket was incredible. Its really well cut for movement, it insulates well and keeps a consistent temp. I have my fathers old "Tetons Mountain Coat" by woolrich, back when they were made in PA. Reminds very much of that one, but it has a better shell and more ergonomic hood. And fits great. It really is a great jacket. the weight to warmth ratio is spectacular. I really like the larger baffles as opposed to the Patagonia style down jacket with the really tight baffles. Just looks better, don't know if it affects the efficiency, but this jacket is all I need. Important caveat is I enjoy the cold, and usually wear just a long sleeve cotton t-shirt underneath. Again not getting sub-zero temps of the Rockies or, I don't know say the Brooks range, but if you were to add some quality synthetic layers under this jacket it would kick it up another notch.

I've been impressed with how warm this lightweight jacket is. The pockets are lined to keep bare hands nice and warm. The hood adjusts to stay on my bare head, even in a good deal of wind. A great jacket for the price. This is great for a beginner walking around town or for an expert on a night out at the resort. On the fit, my advice is that it is right in line with the sizing guidance.

Great jacket!

This jacket is everything that I was looking for! Excellent fit, warm, and even a bit water resistant! So far this jacket has kept me warm at my sons baseball practices in Northern California 50° and even on a cold winter morning in Reno 15°. I’m 6” 180lbs and I couldn’t ask for a better fit.

Warmth + comfort

Jacket fits as expected. Haven’t tested in field yet, but plenty warm in temps in the 40’s. Expect comfort in much lower temps.

DWR actually works

The coat is very warm. Even though I got a men’s size, it doesn’t fit too bulky and is long enough for my arms. The DWR actually works in light snow, and the padding does not restrict arm movements. The color is also pretty true to the image.

Perfect for glassing in frigid temps

I bought this jacket to keep me warm while glassing during my November elk season hunts. The packability and warmth of this jacket provides our second to none!

Great jacket for the price.

This jacket has the perfect amount of bulk between being too thin and too thick. Offers exceptional warmth yet can still pack down relatively small. I haven’t experienced any of the down feathers leaking out like similar products from other manufacturers.

Good value

Fit is a little small compared to other tops/jackets I have purchased from OR. I bought a large. Other large jackets were better sized for layering than this one. I would buy an XL instead in this jacket (195lbs 6'4" athletic build). Good value. Slightly warmer than the Helium down.

It does as advertised! Very warm, a little bulky and a little tight, but very effective. Used through a Washington winter in the mountains with a lot of time sitting still.

My favorite cold weather jacket

It is the warmest jacket I own. Water resistant, so being in a light rain for 20 minutes you should be fine. If layered properly this jacket is easily good for -20’s. I love the cinch on the back of the hood, it does a fantastic job of keeping the wind from going down your neck and back.

Great as a mid layer

I have used this jacket now on multiple occasions in the mountains of Colorado. I use it primarily as a layer under my hard shell. If you're looking for a giant puffy, this isn't it, but it works exceptionally well in my layering system. I have also used as a quick insulation layer (taking the dog out) over a t-shirt in temps down into the 20s and it is plenty warm.
