My daily

2 Expert Recommendation Content This jacket is a staple in my wardrobe. I wear it daily. City life, hiking and backpacking. It’s lightweight, comfortable, warm and practical. The zippers pockets are secure and big enough for maps or other miscellaneous items. The hoodie is quite attractive and has received compliments by family and friends. I’ve had it for 8 months and I would definitely buy one again.

Perfect Running Top for Cold Weather

Best hoodie I have ever ran in during the colder months. I’m up in Northern MI where temps can go from single digits to 20s for 3-4 months. this hoodie keeps me outside and off the treadmill. just enough heat to keep me warm but enough breathability for those hard efforts. recommend for anyone who wants to stay outside in the colder months and doesn’t want to have to layer up with normal cotton hoodies. this hoodie and a base layer can sustain you through all those winter months.

Cozy, Warm, Breathable, Perfect?

I love this jacket, it is incredibly versatile in the shoulder seasons, and great for early alpine starts or as a layering piece for active days in the Idaho winter. I use it mostly for biking, disc golfing, and fly fishing. It vents enough to keep you balanced during strenuous activity and is warm enough for the times you're just hanging around camp, and it's 45-70°F. I love this piece when i not sure if I will be warm or cold. It is very reliable and packs down fine for when it gets too warm. I would say this is a top 3 Outdoor Research product for me, and I wouldn't think twice about purchasing another one if I lost it or it got worn out.

Great in the alpine

Expert Recommendation Content I used this for about 2 months in the CO alpine while climbing this summer and it was great while moving around with a bag. The back is much thinner so if you don’t have a pack on it might be cold. Best if used in 35-40° while moving 50s standing around. Fits small and a little tight so definitely not an over jacket/ soft shell fit.

One of my favorites!

The jacket is amazing. The poly liner wicks sweat and dries very quickly. The jacket is extremely breathable and has been used on everything from casual strolls to more strenuous runs. It is a little fitted, so size up if you plan on layering underneath it.

This is my go to run around town jacket. The mapping for thermal properties is very well designed and makes this jacket comfortable in most conditions.

Extremely Light Weight and Warm

It is a great jacket to have at all times. Perfect in a city environment going in and out of buildings all day. Also works great for camping or hiking as you don't get too hot while moving around in it. If you're sitting still would want to layer it up with something else as well.

Solid Cold Weather Hoodie

The Outdoor Research Deviator Hoodie exceeded expectations during my recent 6-mile run in 24-degree Fahrenheit weather. Despite the cold, the hoodie, paired with a single polyester t-shirt, kept me comfortably warm throughout the run. The fabric's ability to regulate temperature was impressive, as I noticed a slight chill when pausing for photos but quickly warmed up again once I resumed movement. The hoodie's design also proved practical, with a spacious chest pocket securely holding my Samsung S22 Ultra and deep lower pockets providing warmth for my hands. The medium size fit perfectly, ensuring optimal comfort and performance. For those who tend to run warm, the Deviator Hoodie is an excellent choice for cold-weather activities, offering a balance of warmth and breathability without feeling bulky or restrictive. I found the combination of hood and beanie to be excessive once I fully warmed up. However, the hood itself is well-designed and provides a snug, comfortable fit without restricting movement or vision. For those seeking a versatile and well-fitting hoodie for cold-weather activities, the Deviator Hoodie is a solid choice. Reference: 5'6, 175, Chest roughly 38" , size: M

Just right

Great for colder activities. Light insulation with good breathability. For me it works well under 40° and active like trail running; hiking you might be able to push up to 60’s. Wind resistance works fine for me in Colorado (front side) with full back ventilation. Rain resistance I haven’t gotten much experience with other than some light drizzle, which it did fine. Very similar to the Arc’teryx Proton FL but with more breathability for activities

Great fit!

Product fits great, I use it to run in the mornings, it’s light but does a good job at keeping me dry while being breathable! The way it is built with lining on the top and front and no lining in the back, makes it a great choice to wear as a soft shell when you are planning heavy activity and sweating in temperatures between 30 and 50 degrees.

The best got better

I have owned an original Deviator Hoodie for the last few years (6?7? can't remember). I loved it. It was the perfect midlayer for slightly colder days. I have emailed begging OR to make it again, and searched eBay and other sites for more to replace my original. I wore it the other day, even. But, today, I received the new one, and it blows the old one out of the water. Bigger grid fleece on the back and underarms, body mapped. Better insulation on the chest and sleeves. Softer, more comfortable material throughout. I wore a thin long sleeve baselayer and this today on a run in 35 degree weather and it was a touch too hot, but its such a good piece. Black will dress up nicely as a casual jacket on cool evenings, but I anticipate this becoming my go to nordic ski, winter running, and midlayer on cold ski days.

Just warm enough

Wearing this set makes Cold winter morning runs so much more enjoyable. As the title eludes, it’s not too warm since it’s made for active running but keeps me warm enough to where the cold air doesn’t bother you during my run.

Love it

Great weight to warmth ratio for winter running. Adequate protection with just a base layer at freezing temperatures. I was fine at 15F with a base layer and mid layer. I loved the original deviator from years ago, I’m glad that they brought it back. My wife is also happy with the one I brought her. I do want more color options.

Great for high output activities in the cold

I have been able to use this top a few times now while backcountry skiing and it is great. Really great arrangement of materials and panels to block wind and allow for venting (back panel). I do wish that the hood had a cinch, but that would also just add weight and bulk. For sizing reference I am 6'1" 185 lbs, negative ape index and the large fits great, even over a thin layer or two.

I purchased this item for my boyfriend during the friends and family promotion. It was supposed to be used for running, but he loves it so much that he wears it all the time. The color is vibrant and beautiful, the fit is perfect, athletic and flattering, and even though this is a light-weight jacket it is warm enough to wear on chilly winter days. If you are looking for the perfect exercise jacket, don't hesitate anymore, this is the one to get!

Perfect layer for Tasmania

I've found myself using this layer constantly in the alpine in Tasmania, an environment where the weather changes quickly and constantly. This piece breathes fantastically during higher output activities but also does a great job at keeping out wind and light rain.

Looks sharp, works great

This is my daily jacket with cold weather setting in. I've used it on my twice daily walks and on snowshoeing trips. It breathes well when sweating, cuts the chill from light wind, and keeps me warm when standing around. I've been layering it underneath my puffy vest. Some of my coworkers were excited thinking it's a new uniform option, I had to be the bearer of bad news. The color is perfect if you're needing to match with parks/usfs green.

Very loose fit

I like this product, but I find the fit to be very loose. I Got a medium and it feel like a Large or XLarge around the trunk. The main quality is that it is breatheable and it dries fast, especialy in the back. In the front is more insulated, but still breatheable. It has a wind breaker integrated in the front. I would like to see improvment in the fit and in the pockets. (look for Mammut jacket for good pockets design)

Fantastic temperature regulation

This works really well when active. It breathes incredibly well and regulates temperature better than I expected. It also dries really quickly. The new active insulation pieces like this really are incredibly versatile. I'd recommend this one to anyone who hikes, cross country skis, etc. in cold weather.

New version, tighter fit.

I love the jacket, warm and moves with you. I have an older version that I absolutely love and was excited to see they brought it back! Ordered the same size as my old one but I need to go up to a size for a more comfortable fit. Still love it, highly recommend for a good active layer for any activity at any level. Unless you like really snug fits or plan on using this as a mid layer, recommend going up a size.

Comfortable and Warm

Very comfortable and easy to wear next to your skin. I'm 6ft and 180lbs and the Large fits well. Well insulated, so it needs to be really cold if you're going to run in it. I use it for MTB and the insulated front and very breathable back is a great combination for riding in cooler temperatures.

Warm but you MAY need more

I absolutely love the minimalism of this jacket. It is very thin but surprisingly warm for what it is. I have been on several early morning rides and walks with this jacket and it has not disappointed. It has been the perfect balance of warmth and breathability that have made my activities more comfortable. As the temperature has dropped, I have noticed it takes a bit more time get to the comfortable level but eventually it gets there. What is remarkable, is that the breathability never fails. With other jackets, I either sweat due to lack of breathability or stay cold because it lacks insulation. I would recommend this jacket along with a warm base layer when temps get colder.. it may run out of usefulness at some point but so far so good down to 40 degrees F.

Very comfortable and light weight. Liner is soft. Didnt have a chance to use it mountain biking in the fall before the snow came here in the Yukon. Considering buying another.
