Classic Big Agnes attention to detail

I’ve had experience using this tent a half dozen times this last summer across the Utah desert wilderness. I have loved its ease of setup and the constant little details and surprises that show this was a product developed by people who actually care. I docked a single point for the inside shelf which has a cord that you use to keep it taught (nice) but the cord ripped off at the attachment point due to having only a few stitches keeping it together. Double or welded stitching there would have made it a perfect tent for me.

Great product overall

I've put this tent through some pretty tough situations so far, and it has been great! It took nickel sized hail for over 30 minutes and still looks brand new. I was worried that the high profile may be underwhelming in high winds, but it stood up brilliantly in 40+ mph gusts... Pretty impressive. The only downside to this tent is the stuff sack it comes with is absolutely horrible. It ripped in half the 4th time putting the tent away, and I'm getting huge pushback trying to get it replaced... Overall this tent has been great so far! It easily fits two people, gear and a large pup.

Someone called this tent frail!

2 Expert Recommendation Content I have borrowed Big Agnes tents before so I knew I would love this tent. I knew after setting it up in my living room it was going to be great. But nothing beats having it set up outside rain coming down, being nice and dry and cozy in the tent with my partner and my dog. The simplicity of setup is why I love BA products and the thoughtful design features like the gear lofts and pockets. I can’t wait to use this tent for seasons to come.

The Doors - Break On Through!

Expert Recommendation Content EVERYBODY LOVES MY BABY This tent has 3 doors, so the cool summer breeze can drift in and let you drift off to sleep, just as easy as if Jim Morrison himself were singing you a lullaby. I’m 6’2 and sit up as straight as I would, if Miss Trunchbull was my teacher, and still have another 8” of room. All this and with the footprint just 1/200th the weight of a grizzly bear (just under 6 pounds) phenomenal. I was able to set it up and take it down with zero instruction in less than 20 minutes and no trouble fitting everything including the footprint into the bag. I have yet to test in a rain storm but I welcome it! Last year we set up the copper spur up in what turned out to be a marsh, and we had a waterbed but didn’t get wet! TL;DR - perfect short distance backpacking tent, 6lbs with footprint, 47” headroom, 3 doors, quick and easy setup. I’ll be updating this when I use it outside.

The Big Agnes Salt Creek SL3 is a well-designed tent that’s easy to live with. Setup is quick and frustration-free thanks to the color-coded poles and tent fabric. Inside, there’s ample overhead storage to keep gear organized and out of the way. The rainfly provides great coverage in wet conditions, and one of the best features is how easily the tent packs back into its bag—no wrestling required. Lightweight and thoughtfully built, it’s a solid choice for anyone looking for comfort and convenience in a three-person tent.

Spacious, Light, and Built for the Hunt

The Salt Creek SL3 has been a game-changer for our hunting trips. For a 3-person tent, it feels incredibly roomy, and the dual side doors make entry and exit hassle-free — especially when you’ve got gear piled inside. The headroom is excellent for changing layers or organizing packs without feeling cramped. What really sets it apart is the balance of weight and durability. It’s light enough to carry deep into elk country, yet strong enough to handle late-season conditions. Setup is intuitive and quick, which is a huge win after a long day of glassing or hiking. Big Agnes nailed the details: great ventilation, smart storage pockets, and weather protection you can trust. This tent has earned its place as our go-to shelter for both hunts and family adventures. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable backcountry home.

This is an amazing tent with some surprising features.

3 Expert Recommendation Content I was looking for a luxurious tent for two that still came in under six pounds and this tent did not disappoint. There is plenty of space for two and the dual vestibules are generously sized. Its unique shape really improves its functionality with nearly vertical walls. The rear shelf was an instant hit. I wasn't sure I would use the third door much but it definitely opens up scenery-gazing opportunities. The build quality is great. My only beef is that the pole bag is very thin and got chewed up immediately. But what self-respecting ultralighter carries a pole bag anyway?

fit for the wilderness

Expert Recommendation Content We took 6 of these to a week long trip in Algonquin Provincial Park. Although the trip was primarily a canoe trip, there was a lot of portaging. Having light weight gear was essential. The scouts loved these tents and they served us well. We look forward to using them for years to come.

Well thought out 3-man.

I’m impressed with the little features on a tent. The things that you know only come from a designer that lives in their tents. The SL3 is one that’s got a lot of those well thought out connectors, storage, a shelf, and Triple entry! Easy to have up in a few minutes without the instructions. Easy packs back into its bags. Self standing is a feature I appreciate in our hard pack AZ desert dirt. I love the fly feature that pops up as a cover without the tent setup. Only two thing that would improve this tent for me is shortening the poles so the packing can collapse down to a smaller size than 19” long. And including the ground cloth. At this price that feels like it should be a part of the kit.

Amazing 3p tent

Expert Recommendation Content I’ve wanted to upgrade from my 2 person tent for a while and I’m so stoked I chose this tent as my upgrade. Super roomy for 2 people and a 4 legged friend, gear loft is huge, multiple small pockets on the side of the tent for phones or other important gear you want to access quickly, and the trekking pole canopy is so cool. Incredibly lightweight and super simple setup/breakdown. I could not be happier with this tent.

Very nice

Very easy to use and helpful in the situations i was in. I used this for backpacking and some car camping and it worked great. I bought the footprint because everything I read recommended buying it to increase the life of the tent. I definitely recommend. Super nice to get this on a really good deal and definitely worth buying. It fits me and a friend and all of our gear and its very comfortable and fun.

Good, Do it All Tent

I bought one about three years ago and then bought a second one. I have used it in most North American environments, and it has withstood strong winds, hail storms, rain, snow, and whatever else you throw at it. It was probably the most spacious three-person tent I have ever been in. It is easy to throw up and take down—it takes five minutes tops. The third front door is a real treat. So are all the storage compartments inside of it. It's not the lightest thing in the world but it works fine for backpacking if you divide the poles and everything else. I have also taken it solo on several trips and it's heavyish and not ideal but fine in a pinch. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a versatile tent.

Great size and weight for 2 people looking for comfort

2 Expert Recommendation Content My wife and I have spent a few nights in the salt creek SL3 and here are my take always. First we bought the 3 person for comfort we paired it with the Big Agnes double wide dream island 35 and their double wide 50” mattress. This ended up being a good fit for us leaving 6 or so inches on each side for water and various other supplies. The tent has 3 doors, initially seemed like a bit but much but the large front door and 2 side doors made setting up inside a breeze. Setup was easy and intuitive as was break down My favorite feature was the built in shelf over the feet. It was amazing having a place to store a few clothing items and a light jacket where I didn’t have to worry about them getting wet. Overall I am very happy with the tent. Light enough to haul out as a 2 person and plenty roomy

Awesome lightweight 3-person tent!

This is a really awesome tent. When I first purchased it, it was the only relatively light tent in my price range that would arrive in time for a somewhat last minute trip. I was a bit skeptical about the "porch", it seemed a bit gimicky, but after using it for several days, I am sold. It is SUPER nice to have two very large doors as well as a big window OR front door. There is plenty of room for three people with a bit of extra room at your feet, and the vestibules easily fit two large packs, or three medium packs. This tent is not ultralight, but if three people are carrying it, it is plenty light!

Spacious & Fairly Light

3 Expert Recommendation Content Have used this tent numerous times. Most recently in SW Colorado on a 40 mile trip. It’s easy to set up, spacious has 3 doors, one you can set up like an awning, plenty of pockets for storage and for a 3 person tent it’s really not that heavy. My buddy and I had a ton of space to chill in when it started raining. Stayed bone dry. The only thing I noticed even after using the tent several times is that there’s no way to access the vent in the fly from inside the screened part of the tent. Don’t know if this is an oversight in production or just how it’s made. Odd as I own 4 other tents and each of them has access. Make sure when you set up on uneven ground that the vent side is angled back or you’ll most likely funnel water into the tent. Otherwise awesome tent.

Three Doors

Awesome tent. Spent 25+ nights in it. Used in the desert, mountains, woods, and snow. Used for car camping and easy enough to backpack with. The third door in the front is really a highlight. Its easy access, looks great, and makes for easy entry int the front. Hopefully will use for years to come!
