Personally when rucking/ doing movements in a 'tactical' setting, go to boot. Pros: Light weight, provides some ankle stability, ventilates well Cons: Soles are softer so more rocky terrain may affect your performance, no Gore-Tex so no water proofing.

Field Tested

Expert Recommendation Content Deployed to Poland with the terrain being flat and very wooded. Over 140 miles of rucking with 35lb rucks to EIB standard. This boot has held through with all that not including all the other trainings I went through with 80+ pound rucks. Very comfortable, very spacious in the toe box. Ankle support is there and the boot slips on and off without any resistance. I used this boot for 12months straight in the field. Would recommend to any Infantryman/Rucker due to the reliability, strength and most importantly lightweight this boot offers. Also a tip, use inserts from cold weather boots that are issued with this boot and you will be fine in the snow, I did it for about 4months in Poland and never once broke out the cold weathers.

Best Boots Ever Made

2 Expert Recommendation Content To hell and back again as an Army infantryman. 20-mile rucks, SFRE, climbing rope, land nav, hiking, hunting, work, to edc. Excellent ventilation in high heat humidity and they work great in icy mountains. Normally wear wide boots though regulars break in perfect. I own tons of pairs. Give me one boot for the rest of my life and they would be Garmont T8 NFS 670's.

I love these boots. Some of the best lightweight but durable ones. Also helped me get through ranger school so They survived some tough scenarios in various weather and terrain conditions.

This boot is lightweight and rugged. Exceptional ankle support and and comfort over long duration movements. Though not the best books for working under heavy loads, they excel with light to medium weight.

First boot I recommend for anyone new to rucking/backpacking

These boots not only will save your feet from countless blisters when paired with a good pair of socks, but they'll weather through all terrain. One pair of these boots lasted me through 3 years of field trainings, regular every day use, and countless rucks, including multiple ~20 milers with 45lb+. I bought two more pairs after I wore the first to death. Only time I get blisters was when I do not wear proper socks or tie laces snug enough. The ankle support is great, they are lightweight, and they are within U.S. Army regulation. Could not recommend these enough.

Wore these for 6 miles to check the overall fit and comfort. The next hike I did was the Bataan Death March and finished without a single blister. Highly recommend to anyone doing a longer hike or timed movements.

Best in the business

I’ve been in the military for 6+ years conducting training missions in the woods, desert, and swamps. These boots were there with me the whole time. No matter what I was doing, the boots remained comfortable, and durable. As long as you have insoles that work for your feet, the boots will take you wherever you need to go. I recommend lacing the boots up using the extra grommets on the sides if you are rucking, otherwise I would not worry about them being used. Some like the extra ankle support, but it’s not necessary all the time.

Great Lightweight Boot

Great boot for everyday wear, I was turned onto the brand through my sister who has used them while she serves in the Army. I use them for duty use with my agency. They have outlasted other brands I have worn, and have been very comfortable as well. No break in period, just slid them on and have had no issues. So far in the hot weather, and desert dust, rocks and dirt of Arizona they have held up well.

Day to Day Performers

This is my third set of these. They wear great, are comfortable, and are reasonably durable. As to the latter, I get about 2 years out of them before the thin leather presents a hole from the creases that develop at the back of the toe box. For me, these mathematically/economically make sense. I was spending $250 on Lowa boots and, while great, got 2-3 years out of them. These boots have yet to let me down!

Lasted for 4 years

I’ve owned 2 pair of these boots for my service in the US Army and for hiking. They definitely have a break in period but once they’re broken in they’re some of the best boots you can own. I’ve done 30 day field exercises in them, rucked hundreds of miles with 40+ pounds, and hiked in them. My first pair has lasted 4 years and still hasn’t fallen apart I just got told by my chain of command I needed new boots. I will never buy a different boot again

Went for a hike with a 45 pound ruck on as soon as I got these boots and they were extremely comfortable right out of the box. Very lightweight and breathable and very secure on my feet without being uncomfortably tight

These boots are great for your rucks and comfortable enough to wear all day in the motor pool or office. They are light with a nice strong bottom that offers good support without being too big and bulky. This is for anyone looking for a “do it all boot”

Best boots I’ve owned in 25 yr military career

I put these boots on out of the box and found out that we were stepping off on a 12 mile ruck march. I was worried because I hadn’t had a chance to break them in. After 12 miles my feet did not get blisters or hotspots. I still wear the same pair but recently ripped a small hole in the left side. I’ve been wearing the same pair for 2 years with hundreds of miles in them. If you want a comfortable boot these are the ones you want.

Great everyday boot

Comfortable right out of the box with no break in period needed. I’ve used these in the office and in the field for the past 6 months. They’ve seen water, woods, concrete, and motor pool without missing a beat. Definitely buying a couple more pair to get me to retirement. No inserts needed yet, but we’ll see in a year or so.

My favorite boots

I absolutely loved these boots and still do even outside the service. I had these boots for my last 2 years in the service. I did multiple rucks, multiple competitions that required me tow wear boots, and they were my everyday wear. Super comfortable, very durable, and by far one of the best looking boots in uniform. MY advice, just buy them. Garmont makes great products.

Best duty boot ever

I have had the pleasure to use this boot as my second pair of AR 670-1 complaint boots. I have wore them off the trail during rucks and land nav and they have held up, stayed dry and kept my feet comfortable. This boot is great for some one who knows what kind of boot they need, this would be for beginners up to experts in their field.

Best of the Garmont Lineup.

I have been wearing Garmont boots since 2015. I have tried them all, NFS, Falcon, Bifida, and Extreme. Of all of them the NFS's are hands down my favorite. They fit great and feel great right out of the box and I went on a 12 mile 2 days after getting my first pair and had no issues. (First few times you wear them make sure you fold the tongue in around your ankles the way you like). They are light and feel like a tennis shoe but have great ankle support for rough terrain. The Bifida's and Falcons definitely have a more aggressive tread but comes at the cost of feeling a bit clunkier. The Extremes are great winter boots if you will be in the cold. I tend to get about 2 years of wear out of each pair although the first year is generally as my "garrison" boot and the second year is as a "field" boot.

Rucks Like a Million Bucks

Without a doubt the most comfortable and versatile tactical boots I have ever owned and worn (experienced with Oakley, Danner, Nike and more). I needed a boot with more support all-around, especially for rucking (Oakley was my previous go-to). These deliver right out of the box. Very comfortable, very supportive, lightweight, and extremely durable. No doubt my next pair of boots will be another pair of these.

The arch support doesn’t collapse over time and the toe box is just right. I’d definitely recommend for those using this product for long hikes or prolonged usage on feet.

I’ve been wearing these boots for about 6 months. These boots were comfortable out of the box. They are holding up very well and show no signs of giving up. Since buying my first pair I’ve purchased a second so I can rotate them. I used to think my jungle boots were the most comfortable I’ve worn, I was mistaken. The T8 NFS are boots that feel like running shoes.

One of the best boots I’ve used

To this day, the NFS has been my go to boot in the military, using it from jumps, to ruck runs, and all in between. I found them to be able to dry very quick and never had to worry about rolling my ankle. For how often I used these things in the circumstances I did, they lasted a fair amount of time. Even now out of the military, I’ll lean towards using them for hikes, range days, etc. I highly recommend these to everyone, soldier and civilians alike.

All around favorite boots

I wore at least 9 models of boots during my time in the military and this was my favorite all around boot. It's light, flexible, and cushioned. This would be my preferred boot for a timed 12 mile ruck march and my primary boot in the field. I found that the size matched my running shoe size. Some people want boots that are hard and "rugged" feeling. I would rather replace my boots after a year or two and save my knees (although I didn't have any issues with durability). The only downside to these boots is that they do take a while to dry when wet. I would opt to wear the T8 Extreme GTX when expecting wet weather and keep these in reserve. You can also keep an extra set of insoles on hand.

Great Trail Boot

I’ve had these boots for a long time and put some serious miles on them. They have stood up quite well even after 100+ miles. They are awesome for roads and trails but if you plan on going off trail into more serious terrain, there are better boots for that such as the Bifidas. Because the tread is thin they do tend to wear out towards the heels but not so fast you will have to buy multiple pairs. Even with all the miles I put on them I still have many more before I buy another pair.

The best

These are the absolute best all around boots that you can get for army use. I had one pair survive 8 years of deployments, rucking, sere school, and daily use while being comfortable throughout. The new ones need to be worn in the shower once or twice to stop pinching the top of your feet.

My go to boots

These boots meet the mission requirements. I have never had any issues with them. Wore the soles out on my last pair and that took a long time of rucking, ruck running and everyday use, and I still wear them around when I am not having to put in work. Loved them so much I bought another pair. Doesn’t matter if you are an expert or a beginner, these boots will meet your needs. Garmont boots rock

Best Boot Around

I have worn Garmont NFS for the last 8 years. They are consistently the best boot around. From thick mud to sand to rocky slopes, rainy days to snow to hot deserts they have seen it all. I've never had a problem with my feet being to hot, blisters, or anything else. They also break in quickly which is nice for anyone who let their old ones go for a bit to long.

Great Overall Light Boot

I've had these for about 2 years. Used them for the field, rucks, and garrison. I've had a variety of light boots (Nike, Rocky C4, Belleville, etc) and these are the best light boots in my opinion. Very comfortable with minimal break in. The tread is good enough for the field but isn't as good at the T8 Bifida. I always keep two pair of boots, 1 heavy duty (rockys, oakleys, Bifida) and one light. This is the best light boot I have had.
