Deer hunting must have

Helped me get a humane shot on a moving deer I would otherwise have likely missed. I was winded, shaky from adrenaline, and had to make a 150 yard shot across a draw, while my target was loping away next to a smaller deer. Not ideal, but I was able to get the shooting stick adjusted quickly, thanks to the trigger mechanism, and I got a shot through his spine. I don't think I'll go hunting without one again. A must have if you value accurate hunting. I was tempted to take a star away because it says not to use it as a walking stick, but I'm not sure that's fair, as it's a shooting stick, not a hiking pole.

Light weight and quick to deploy

Expert Recommendation Content This shooting stick proved useful this year when I took a deer from a kneeling position on a steep hillside. The hillside would have made a bipod hard to setup quickly and the deer was on the move. The brush around me made the taller monopod the perfect choice. I find this monopod easy to adjust with the trigger, but you do have to use both hands when extending the lower section (for a taller position) by pulling the nested poles apart. It is a little on the long side when collapsed. It sticks up out of my pack by about 10" and hits tree limbs on occasion, but I have still found it worth packing around. I am 6'2" and can use it for a standing shot over tall brush.

Really well made, reliable and functional

I have used previous shooting sticks that were more "economical" and been unimpressed with their unreliable clamp/extension system. There is not much more frustration when using a brace only to have it slide down on you when fully "locked". Second to that, is when the locking system does not properly release and you are stuck (yeah, punny) with using a sitting/kneeling stance when you really did not want that. So I have hunted with others who have owned earlier versions of the Trigger stick, borrowed theirs, and now happily own one. The versatility and operation of this monopod is straightforward, easy to understand and will serve well when needing to set up quickly in the field.
