Strong, Secure, Durable

Expert Recommendation Content I’ve enjoyed the progression and innovation of Crankbrothers over the years. My downhilling son raved about the Mallet 3’s having them on both his rigs, so I thought I’d give them a try on my new gravel/adventure bike. Transitioning from a wide degree of float with road pedals was an adjustment as stock cleats offer no play. I moved to CB “easy release” cleat which more suited my need. Either cleat takes a very determined force to release, so no need to fear inadvertent release downhilling, sprinting or odd body-English contortions...in fact when T-Boned Friday the 13th by a van and airborne 20ft., my feet were still locked into my pedals when EMS arrived. Pretty impressive security. I appreciate the ability to wear non-cycling footwear and no feel the egg beater mechanism when making an errand of tooling around town.

Stable, solid and value

I replaced my Candy pedals with these due to more technical riding style I picked up in the high desert riding style I find myself in. I love the ability to clip out and ride flat when I get scared... concerned. I have hit these on a few (hundred) rocks and they are scared but still solid. I would buy them again but will probably upgrade to the Mallet E next time. Not because they don't perform but I have an upgrade habit when I replace something. I also have recommended it to friends as a first clipless since they can easily ride them as flats when desired. They are a bit of a compromise as a flat but that is not what I see as their primary purpose. They are great as a clipless pedal. Bottom line, a great pedal

First Clipless Pedals

I put these on my gravel/commuter/fitness bicycle, which is probably overkill, but overall I'm really enjoying these pedals. They definitely took some getting used to but after about a month of use I feel like I can clip in and out of them very easily. It never unclips unintentionally, no matter how hard I'm pedaling. I like the 2 options of float but I recommend starting with a the larger angle if they are new to you. They are also way lighter than they look. I will probably switch them to my mtn bike once I get back to the trails more frequently.

Great Commuting Pedal

I switched to this pedal on my Cyclocross/Commuting bike a couple months ago. I originally used a Double Shot pedal to learn to ride clipless and give me an option to wear regular boots when the weather was cold. Now that I am committed to clipless this has been a great pedal. It is easy to clip in and has great support. I have also been able to use it with insulated boots with decent results if I want to still commute when the weather is colder. I ended up buying a second set to go on my hard tail.

Best clip system in the biz. If you can snag some mallet shoes, you will be set!! Some mallet models, not sure if just older ones or what, do not come with pins on the pedal around the clip mechanism. Having those extra pin for grip if you come unclipped and have to get back in, the pins provide some stability, especially if conditions are wet. Take a close look at the pic to make sure they have pins if that is your preferance.

Perfect balance when switching from flats. Having a sturdy platform under your feet with the benefit of being clipped in. Super happy with my transition to clipless pedals.

All the advantages of clips but still maintain control when you can’t clip in for some reason such as shear speed or starting on a steep hill

Great pedal

Sticky and predictable. Take a while for your shoes to wear with them. Pretty heavy but very durable If it wasn’t so heavy it be a 10

Nice pedal

Great mtn. Bike pedal, works with regular shoes..but the “eggbeater” part is not super comfortable- but also not a deal breaker.
