I am on my third set of mallet pedals now and wouldn't go with any other pedal for enduro/ trail riding. These work great when the riding gets a little bit too scary to be fully clipped in, say on technical rocky climbs, and also give you a safety net if you do happen to come unclipped on a fast section. I like the adjustability they give you with the ability to adjust the pins. I have over 1000 miles on this pedal, and they have been tremendous the whole time. Also, the support for parts and refresh kits is amazing; I love fixing my gear rather than replacing them.

Great Pedal but Still Need to Fine-Tune

These are my first clipless pedals and they are great, but not perfect for me. I have Shimano GE900's and I am running into some adjustment issues so far. According to the cleat fit tool, it recommended I use a shim under the cleat, but it led to far more movement than I was hoping for. Removed the shim and it's been better, but still feeling too much floating around on top of the pedal instead of firmly planted. Hoping adjusting the pins more will help alleviate/remove this issue for me. I only assume that if I was using CB shoes then I may not be running into as much of an issue out of the box. Other than the concern of compatibility issues between different shoe brands, these pedals are built really well, serviceable, customizable, and have been what I want out of a clipless pedal for predominantly riding enduro.

Great option for clipless

Expert Recommendation Content I took a 2 year hiatus from clipless, after 25 years on SPDs. Rode flats for those 2 years to relearn some lost bike handling techniques that clipless pedals had stolen from me. The Crankbrother's system seems much smoother than the Shimano SPDs, from what I remember. The Mallet's give you that extra flat pedal safety net, if you cannot clip in ASAP. The pins do a great job of catching the shoe sole. I will continue to use these, and switch from time to time back to flats, when the trail profile dictates it.

Been riding Crank Brothers for 10+ years and minus a few sticky pedals (which were rebuilt by CB), no issues. Switched from ~5 year old Candy’s to the Mallet E on the trail bike and won’t go back. The added support, both clipped and unclipped is far superior to either Eggbeater or Candy (duh). Currently riding with Giro Privateer shoes, no issues whatsoever. Only regret is I didn’t give them a try either. As far as the “standard” verse long shaft, I stuck with the standard to match the Q factor of my existing pedals. I will admit I’m curious to try out the LS version to do a side-by-side.

Great pedals. Take a little time to get use to.

The pedals are well built and robust. They were pretty hard to get in and out of at first. I ended up screwing in the cleats all the way then backing them out slowly until they contacted the shoe. Not as confident of a click in and out as my Shimano pedals but I think with practice I will et use to them. High point, they work great in mud. Never had to clear them. I would have given them a 10 but a little disappointed they only came with one set of cleats. Would have liked to have the 10 degree set as well.

These are my first clip-in pedals and I really like them. I don't have literally any experience with clipless pedals so take this with a grain of salt. I really like the big platform these pedals have. I'm quite inexperienced with clipless pedals. If your foot misses the clip you still have a bit of grip from the pins on the pedal platform. The clips are pretty tight at first, but they do loosen up over time. For me, I wish things were a bit looser because my brain is still used to flat pedals and I've already fallen over a couple times! I put these pedals on my gravel bike, which I sometimes take around town without my bike shoes to the grocery store or whatever. They're OK in regular shoes, but the clip does dig into the ball of your foot a little bit, which is the only reason I don't give it a perfect score. These are really good pedals which you should try if you want to get into clipless. I like that they come in a lot of colors too. Color-matching a bike is really fun. I've heard a lot of good things about Crankbrothers' products and so far I'm suitably impressed.

Solid, yet safe

They are awesome. They came really stiff and took a bit of setup to get them working with my shoes well. My first time they dug into the shoes so bad and were so stiff I just kept riding laps around my neighborhood until I could clip out. I eventually got them sorted out and they're great. I would have liked to see the option of getting the easy release cleats either in place of or along with the regular cleats. The documentation also was for cleats with dots on them but mine had L and R which would be straightforward except if you switch them (so L on right shoe and R on left) it is a different configuration.

Great for pros and beginners.

Expert Recommendation Content I used CB to switch from flats to clips, and it was an extremely easy transition. The two hole cleats are easy to mount, and I’ve had no trouble finding my clips when riding. The standard cleat is very easy to disengage and I’ve had only one emergency-forgot-to-unclip moment on the first day. I ride these with Fizik Terra Clima 2s. I will use CB on all my clip bikes; candies on a gravel / road Canyon Grail, and mallets on a downhill Canyon Sender.

The Incredible Pedal!!

My last pair of Mallet 2's lasted me 6+ Years so I decided to upgrade to these Mallet E's and Absolutely Love them so far!! I especially like the fit options these have with the (1-2MM)plastic inserts on each side of the pedal clips to get a perfect fit to your shoe pending on depth of Cleats. I've about 5-6 rides so far but totally love these new Pedals, they are Great!! I was also surprised to get an extra pair of cleats with them. Love Crankbrothers products!!

I’ve used other “ clip-in “ pedals, but I love the solid platform these pedals provide so if you need to remain unclipped for a sketchy portion of the trail, I find I’m able to do that fairly well, then clip back in when ready. The cleats provided may be a bit difficult to clip/unclip, in which case you can purchase cleats with a lower degree of float. So I was able to “ customize “ the amount of pressure or twist I needed to unclip. I will purchase another pair when needed.

trouble free product

I have used those pedals for years now and never had a problem. Bearings still running smooth after a couple seasons of guiding in Austria and Italy. The Mallet E is one of my favorites even that I recently swapped to Stamp's. The only thing you need to think of is....be careful with click in click out at the first couple of times.

The Mallet E is a super robust pedal. The platform and stout build make it a great pedal for eMTB riding, especially if you’re riding some rocky terrain where pedal strikes are frequent. The studs on the platform also help if you accidentally unclip mid-air and still need a little grip to avoid smashing your shin when you land. Great combo when paired with the Speedlace shoes!

Great transition to clip-in

This is my first pair of clip-ins, and I was a bit nervous about going this direction on my MTB, but the combo of a flat pedal and the egg beater style clip has made the transition much easier. The first few rides, the clips were very hard to pop out of, but after a few weeks they seem to have settled in and I can easily pop out of them when needed.

Durable and Dependable

I have used this product for the last three years. I really enjoy the additional surface area of the peddle when you need to remount your bike in tricky terrain. As long as you keep the cleats relatively fresh, they clip in constantly. Favorite pair of clip-in pedals I've owned. Planning on buying another pair for the next bike.

Mallet E

These pedals are excellent for trail riding. Only thing I did was upgrade the spindles to the long ones. I'm a tall guy with wide feet, so you may not have as much crank rub as I did without the long spindles. Excellent mtb pedal, fully supports the foot even if you miss clipping back in after a dab.

These pedals are amazing. So. Much. Grip!! A few thoughts... First, with 5.10 shoes, my sole is super close to the crank arm, and in certain situations does make contact. This can be circumvented by buying the LS model though. Second, they really don't work unless you have a "enduro"-style shoe. My carbon soled cross-country shoes don't work at all. If you are ok with both of those things, they are simply the best thing on the market right now. Awesome. Never going back.

Incredible pedal

I had some hesitation at purchasing a higher end pedal, but was instantly gratified with its performance. After throwing it on my Salsa Journeyman, this has been a great pedal for everyday commuting as well as for weekend gravel rides. Of note, I was particularly impressed with its construction. This is a great pedal for anyone looking to putting a quality piece on their bike.

Great eggbeater pedals. Don't grip treads very well.

These pedals are about as good as you can get for enduro style clipless/platform pedals but they still aren't great at gripping enduro shoes (I use shimano AM5s). I don't any company has figured it out but these pedals are otherwise great! Have beaten the crap out of them and they're still holding up like they did on the first ride.

All Mountain Pedal

Great pedal for All Mountain / Enduro bikes. These pedals blur the line between clipless and flat pedals. The large platform makes it easy to get pedaling without clipping into the pedal. Pros: Large stable platform, adjustable traction pins, relatively light for their size. Cons: Tricky to clip into initially. The initial set up with a pair of Sidi Dominators required shims under the cleats.

Rock solid & reliable

First set of clipless pedals after riding flats for years and these really did the trick. They were very easy to get used to and still give me that flat pedal feel while keeping my on when stuff gets real rough. Would absolutely recommend these to anyone who’s new to clipless or to someone who’s looking for a forgiving set of clipless pedals.

Great pedal. Stable platform I enjoy having the larger pedal and pins to make it familiar with flat pedals but still have the action of a clip, they ride with standard mountain bike shoes and once the pins were set they worked great. Have found they clip in easily and have a standard un clip making it familiar yet something new and innovative.

Was looking for a set of peds that I could hop on and ride without lacing up my clip ins. These fit the bill for the most part. Riding with clips was a treat and I would highly recommend them! Haven't ridden too much without clips but if I was looking for a true hybrid I have seen crank brothers makes that.

Just received these and installed them right away. My first impressions are that they grip extremely well. I tried them with some adidas rubber type sandals and they did not disconnect going off my deck and down some boulder steps. Popped some wheelies and did some bunny hops all with sandals. GTG! Next step is to try with actually clips.

Great for MTB

Wide enough of a platform to where just in case you aren’t able to clip in properly, you can still pedal the bike. Very helpful when going there techy terrain and don’t necessarily want to be clipped in in case you need to bail out quickly. I’ve owned these for about a year and a half now and they are very durable, haven’t had any issues at all with them.

Scary pegs

These pedals have scary grip, the grip pegs combined with the clip less cleat create a “you are never coming out of this pedal” feel when riding. After removing the pegs and smoothing the cleat with a file, technical descending was much less horrifying. Now I like them even more than my well worn SPDs!
