The perfect mix

I’m a clip-in kind of rider, that’s just where I’m comfortable. But, I’m opening my mind to the occasional flat pedal experience and these are perfect. The teeth are adjustable so I can have as much grip as I need. They’re a good size so the platform doesn’t feel too big. And, the spindle is a little tighter so I’m not always looking for the right side. These pedal are the perfect balance fir someone who really likes to clip in when climbing and maybe have a flat pedal when going through more technical terrain. And they’re Crank Bro’s so great quality and style. These pedals are excellent!

These pedals are great for riders wanting the best of both worlds! The engagement is appropriate on the clipless side of the pedal, doesn't get clogged or fail despite a fair share of dirt/mud in it. The pedal sticks slightly (I think this is purposeful) so that with each rotation a different side of the pedal is up, so you don't have to actually flip the pedal manually, just rotate the arms and a different face is up. The flat side is plenty sticky for those riding flats, and the adjustable traction pins are a great touch!

Great, versatile pedal.

I have about 2000km on these pedals on my gravel bike and they've been great. I ride a lot of pavement and gravel roads with some single track mixed in at times. A little stiff to clip into initially but that is to be expected. Once clipped in I feel very secure but still have enough float for more technical maneuvering, when needed. I do occasionally use the flat side for running an errand or riding around the neighborhood with my daughter, and having that option is nice. That said, I don't think I would be super confident in the traction of the flat side for a more aggressive application i.e. mountain biking.

Perfect for the commute!

I give these pedals a 10 since they are grippy on one side and I can clip in on the other. I have a 20 mile one way commute and I needed the clip ins so that I could have as much power with me as possible on my long bike ride to and from work. I also cruise down to the local brewery to meet friends for a beer and wanted to be able to wear my sandals, or street shoes for that. The pins on the grippy side are perfect for making sure my shoes don't slip off in inclement weather. The clips were a bit hard to get used to at first just because I was learning where to stomp down on them when starting from a red light. After a week I was really comfortable with knowing where my foot placement was. I have loved them so much that I go another pair for my single speed!

Versitile Pedals

Bought these hoping to get the best of both worlds for clipless and platform pedals to transform my old Trek road bike into a more friendly commuter (about 7 miles each way 3x per week) since I have a lot of steep incline starting and stopping on my ride to work. After about 250 miles of mixed use my assessment is that the pedal is not a great replacement to a pure clipless or platform pedal but the flexibility to do both without having to change out pedals makes it a worthy compromise. Clipless - I transitioned from Shimano 105s road bike pedals to these. EXTREMELY stiff on break in, to the point that I thought I must be doing something wrong. I sat in my garage and clipped in and out about 20 times before they loosened up to where I felt comfortable clipping without holding on to something (after initially being convinced that I would never be able to clip in). There is no way to manually adjust the spring tension. They work fine now, if still a little stiff, after 2 months. I have them installed with a 15 degree release angle and they have a comfortable amount of float for me. I primarily use the clipless side for road biking (20-40 mile rides) and I don't have any major complaints. Platform: The 8 adjustable pins per pedal do an excellent job of gripping a pair of flat bottom shoes (Converse All Stars). I feel confident with my feet on the platform pedals at 35+ MPH downhill and they don't slide around in the rain. I haven't used them in mud but imagine the adjustable pins would perform well. I have size 14 feet and would prefer a slightly wider platform than the 53mm for pure platform riding so that the very outside of my foot doesn't overhang, but for a smaller foot I wouldn't have any complaint. I haven't experienced any issues with the pedals contacting the ground during hard turns. Overall: The best combination clipless/platform pedals out there but the convenience/versatility of the combination pedal has drawbacks over a pure clipless or platform pedal. This has met my desire to commute platform and continue to train clipless. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to do that. I don't plan to use these for racing and am therefore not terribly concerned about the weight.

Great if you fall in this category

If you're the type of person that only rides flats and are wanting to switch to a clipless pedal, then these are awesome. While using the clipless side I destroyed all my hill climb records. Then I would switch to the flats while descending because I was uncomfortable with my abilities with the clipless. But if you're already used to clipless, then you may get frustrated with these. I tried a pair of shimano clipless for a day and found clipping back in was much easier. But I had to nurse my bike down the hills. So people aren't wrong when they say keep flats separate from clipless, but if you're willing to spend the money these are a great segue.

Best pedal on my bikes

Craftsmanship is top notch, customer service is great to deal with. I love the option to clip-in or ride flats. Once you are familiar with the clips they are like any other. The flat side has plenty of grip when combined with my 5.10. I did go to Fastenal and purchase set screws that were a tad bit longer. The short set screws in the package did not thread in enough and provide the traction I wanted. Overall I am extremely happy with the pedal and will be putting them on my other bikes

This is my first pedal with the option to clip in. I recently started wearing shoes with MTB cleats and they have been super easy to use. Getting in and out of the pedals was not hard to learn. Even though they have a bigger profile since they have a flat side, I think the overall design is sleek and relatively low profile. would definitely recommend, but might be on the heavier side if you're counting grams.

I love crank brothers pedals and have the candy 3 on three bikes and the stamp on another. I bought the double shot to use for riding where there are larger jumps and camping trips. The pedal is made well but it doesn’t do either job great. So for me, it only makes sense in some limited situations.

Awesome for climbs, technical downhills depends on your footwear...

These pedals are pretty solid and are really great on uphill climbs. Be aware that your shoe choice matters with these on a technical downhill. You'll definitely want a grippy, full contact sole and not the "cycling" style to go with these. The combination will take away some power on the uphill, but you'll feel much more secure on a technical descent.

Superb Pedal for fat bike

Expert Recommendation Content The ability to use the pedal with both my cleated boots. But more importantly when my boots are full of mud they are still a stable platform even if I can’t clip in...oh yah it also allows my daughter to steal my fat bike

“New Again” to riding and bought these based on a suggestion from a friend. Wanted the option of locking in or riding flat side. They are perfect size for my feet (10.5) and have incredible grip. Same black and red color of my bike so look great too.

I bought these for the more technical rides when I want to enjoy the best of both worlds - riding clipped in or if I chose use it as a flat. It worked best with a shoe like five ten hellcat (i.e., wider and gripy sole)

Go-to trail pedal

I have egg beater pedals on my gravel bike, candy pedals on my XC bike, mallet e pedals on my enduro bike, and have always used double shots on my trail bikes. The ability to jump on it with any shoes is a huge plus

I love the versatility of these pedals. I don't always want to ride clipless and it's great to be able to go back and forth without swapping anything out. Very sturdy build and they work great.

Great for climbing and still able to hit the jumps on the way down with the comfort of the flat. I ride in the mountains of Colorado where its up and then down.

I like how versatile these pedals are. Clip in for power, or go flat for around town or on technical sections. I wish I’d bought these years ago!

I rarely clip in.

I use these on all three of my gravel bikes. Great to have the option to clip in. They can be very difficult to get clipped in until broken in.

Versatility

I use these for every day riding to work in regular boots and also clip in for serious rides. Not clipping in has been clutch on single track too.

Clipless, flip flops.

Can clip in for longer rides by myself, or pedal flat when I’m tooling around with my kids. As big as a real flat pedal with aggressive traction that can be adjusted.
