Static V Luxe > winter

Expert Recommendation Content I have had mixed success in the past with ground insulation which lead a friend to recommend the Insulated Static V. I purchased the standard Insulated Static V, but needed a bit more width to accommodate my shoulders. So, I ordered the luxe as well. I wanted to test the Klymit Insulated Static V Luxe the right way. So I set up a 10'x10' tarp shelter with a sheet of 15 mil poly (to mitigate punctures). Expected overnight temperatures were between 17 and 20 degrees. Used a cheap 30 degree sleeping bag and a wool blanket. Despite the cold, and being a sleeper who rolls often, the Insulated Static V Luxe performed like a champ! I was able to maintain an even and warm temperature inside my bag! I was surprised by it's durability on rough ground and comfort. As mentioned I roll quite a bit. Many insulated pads are great if you sleep on your back, but as soon as roll on your side your hip is on the ground. Not with the Static V. This will now be my go-to sleep pad for all of my backpacking trips. Until Klymit comes out with another.

Cheap Comfort

I've used this pad for about 70 nights bike touring, ski touring, and canoe tripping. I have several others to choose from but this is my three-season go-to for all but the lightest excursions. It packs relatively small and is also quite light for its massive size. As a side-sleeper, this mat, which is roughly 3-feet wide, allows you to extend out a knee or an entire leg without falling or rolling off of your mat. In fact, you could squeeze a spooning couple onto here if you had to. The valve has never leaked and the material appears to be quite robust. Also, the material is not that loud (crinkly) and is soft enough that you can sleep directly on the pad without a sheet. I slept straight on the pad using a small quilt for a 35-day bicycle trip from Tuktoyaktuk, NWT to Victoria, BC, and was quite pleased! The only downsides are that it really does not fare well in the cold despite the fact that it's insulated. And you can't fit two of these side by side in a smaller two-person tent - making it a better solo mat. I really like this mat but would likely opt for the non-insulated Static V Luxe XL in the future.

I bought this pad in 2017 for a trip to the Boundary Waters. I am a big guy (5' 10" and 265 lbs) and I wanted something wide enough that I could be comfortable rolling from side to side and still hopefully small enough that I could pack in without adding too much weight. This pad is great. It is comfortable to sleep on and easy to inflate. I have used it on numerous camping/backpacking trips and have no complaints. it fits at the bottom of my pack with my sleeping bag and is worth every ounce over come of the smaller pads.

Great for side sleepers! 8 stars vs 10 due to heavy-ish weight and packed size

Scout leader, hunter, active side sleeper here. At 5'11" and 195 lbs, I went through a few sleeping pads trying to find one that best balanced weight, packed volume, inflated size, and insulative qualities. Finally found the insulated Klymit Static V Luxe extra-wide and haven't looked back. From Philmont to garden-variety scout camping weekends and hunting trips, this pad has been great. No leaks (be sure to fully snap the inflation cover in place), keeps me warm, prevents pressure points on my hips and shoulders, all while providing enough real estate (length but especially width) for someone like me who rolls from side to side a lot during the night. That said, others may not like the trade-offs though: Heavier than other models at 2 lbs, and the packed volume (8"x5") may direct others to different models. Overall very happy with this pad, recommended it to my even taller brother who liked it as well.

Best sleeping pad I have ever used.

I have been a Scout in the BSA since I was in the second grade and a leader for the last 10 years. I have used several different air mattresses and foam pads including cots over the years. The Klymit Static V line of pad has impressed me from the begining. From the quality to the quick fill/ empty valve to the comfort it just keeps impressing me. I did opt for the insulated one as I live in SW Minnesota and usually start camping in April/ May and end in October with the occasional November/ December trip. We camp from the Black Hills of SD to WI and from Northern MN to NW IA. At 2lbs it is a little heavy for backpacking (which is what I bought it for). I will be getting a lighter Static V pad in the future. I also recommend the VSheet to go with the V pad.

Lightweight Luxury Pad

Expert Recommendation Content I love Klymit products! The Insulated Static V Luxe is a dream. I’m willing to trade off on weight to carry this incredibly comfortable inflatable mattress. My back is destroyed and this mattress not only lets me sleep in comfort on my back or side...I can sleep pain free on my stomach. Three of these entirely cover the floor space of my Marmot Limelight 4. It takes me 20 breaths to attain my desired inflation, and it deflated quickly with dual air valves. I’ve only had them for a little over three years, but I’ve used them backcountry, bikepacking, kayak packing and car camping in 14 States, four seasons, over 200 camping days...and they look brand new. I do own a couple lighter SL models for the backcountry now...along with Klymit’s XL pillow and their seat.

Great luxurious sleeping pad.

Expert Recommendation Content I love this sleeping pad, stays true to the claim of not feeling the ground when sleeping on your side. This is a bigger and heavier sleeping pad but a good night's rest is worth the extra weight and size in my opinion. It is well insulated and keeps me warm. Just be warned that this uses your body heat to warm up the air in the pad and if you are a side sleeper it won't be as effective. It does come with a patch kit. Only con is that it does take a good 20 to 30 breaths to fill this bad boy up. If you dont care about the size or weight and want a good night's rest then this is the pad for you.

Expert Recommendation Content 11/20-Two Year Update: Klymit Insulated State V Luxe: I have slept comfortably on this pad no less than 200 camping nights over the last two years and cannot sing it’s praises enough. When bikepacking or paddlepacking the minimal extra weight is offset by the luxurious comfort the Staric V Luxe provides. It is the first sleeping pad I recommend to everyone who desires a restful and comfortable night’s sleep. Klymit are the only sleeping pads I have recommended and given to my kids and their spouses. 8/18 My all time favorite sleeping pad. The comfort, size and lightweight make this the perfect front country choice. I am able to sleep on my side and stomach with this pad...and with a destroyed back...that’s quite a testament! It’s not a lightweight (a relative term) so I’ve got to the Static V Lite for extended backcountry trips but still secretly long for this pad.

Klymit is insanely awesome

This my second of two. My first is the regular. They are long lasting, durable, and easy to set up. Packing them up is a little harder if you want to get them back in the bag, but if you roll em and strap to the side of your pack, or on top, its much easier. Dont inflate them all the way, you want some give when you lay down. Just a little. You'll figure out after a few sleeps. These are the best bang for your buck. Are there lighter options? Yes. Are there smaller options? Yes. Are there cheaper options to look and feel the same? Yes (think amazon). Klymit will last the test of time. The others will cost you your first born child, and the cheaper ones crumble under repeated use. Happy Camping!

Practically palatial with how wide it is - nearly took up the entirety of our two person tent. Came in handy when my husband's thermarest delaminated and we ended up sharing mine! Only reason it's not 10/10 is for the side sleepers out there: I have more of an hourglass shape and usually need a foam to accommodate, and as cushy as this was, I still had some tossing and turning from the pressure points on my hip. Can't wait to see if it fares a little better in my hammock, but all in all, I'm really pleased with this purchase.

Super pad. At 2lbs it’s a little heavy but it more than makes up for it in comfort and warmth. Used on a 10 mile overnight hike this past weekend and as I laid there drifting off all I could think about was writing a raving review for this pad. I usually end up waking up with a sore back or tossing and turning all night. Not with this pad. I love that it’s wide and long. No more rolling off the pad in the middle of the night and I don’t have my feet hanging off the end anymore. I love this pad and won’t be going anywhere without it. Highly recommended.

Is this pad a little heavier than others in its class? Yes. Is it really damn comfortable, especially for side sleepers? Yes. Is a good nights sleep worth the minor weight penalty? Heck yes it is. I can’t be expected to be as jazzed about a summit push/alpine start wake up if I can’t fit my entire tall body on pad built for people under 6 feet tall. I have slept like the mayor of champion town since upgrading from the insulated static V...and at 6’3, 190 lbs I get the feeling that I’m sleeping at home on my own bed. Sleep systems are critical to enjoying time spent in the backcountry or at a basecamp, so if you’re counting every gram, cut those grams from somewhere else that doesn’t influence your rest and comfort. I guarantee you that a weight savings can be made elsewhere when gearing up for backcountry adventures.

Large but a solid buy

I bought this sleeping pad for my husband to use on a multi-night rafting trip as a replacement for our larger car camping air mattresses. I have the Klymit Static V (regular, non-insulated), so I figured this would be a good addition to our gear collection. The weather was going to be cold, so we knew we wanted the higher R-Value. We were between this pad and the Big Agnes Rapide XL. My husband is a light sleeper, so the larger pad was a necessity so he could move around and not fall off. He is 5'11" and about 160 lbs. This pad is BIG. It just fit top-to-bottom in our Marmot 3P tent and it dwarfs my little Static V. The insulated pad kept him warm, he didn't even think about the cold ground as the temps dipped to low 20s overnight. I'll be carrying this one with me on shorter backpacking treks. It's definitely heavier and bulkier than the Static V, but adds a lot more comfort and space. Also, as other reviews mention, it takes quite a few breaths to blow it up, but you can take a break with the flip valve design. It wasn't terrible, just took a bit extra time and effort.

Perfect pad for beginners or pros, even more for side sleepers !

This pad is almost perfect. It is warm enought for cold weather, make no noise when mooving (other than some thermarest that are usually rate higher on some list), its super wide, which is perfect for side sleeper, for it size it pack relatively small. On the other hand, its a little bit heavier than some of the other model some brand offer, but considering it size and warmth, its understandable. Plus, its super cheap, the price is super affordable. So, to summerize, its the best pad on the market if you're not scared to add a little bit of weight. Would recommend to anybody !

Great product! The insulated aspect of this product is amazing. Even on the cold ground in the high desert of Oregon I did not get cold through the ground using minimal blankets. I am a side sleeper, plus I am not on the light weight side and I could not feel my hip hit the ground which is amazing considering the thickness and size. My only issue I had was I needed my shoulder/neck support than the pillows I had with me because there is not extra give like with a regular mattress. Great product overall for camping!

super comfy

I had been borrowing camping supplies from other people for random trips, and finally decided to invest in a better sleeping set-up instead of the 40+ year old mats I had access to. I went for a bigger size mat, due to being a stomach sleeper and having a tendency of rolling around. I set up the mat with other various vehicle blankets, plopped down at night, and felt ultra comfy instead of the standard of hitting the ground with my hips. I slept alright, which is pretty normal for me, and while I did awake throughout the night, I didn't get that cold/hard feeling that normally occurs. I'm excited to test this out on future camping endeavors, but thus far, its been great. Does take a bit to blow up, but its absolutely worth it. I've never been that cozy in a tent.

Best Sleeping Pad Ever

My wife has back problems, so camping can be a challenge. I bought this pad to replace her Thermarest Venture. She has said it allowed her to sleep better and was well worth the money. The “V” pattern in the pad molds to your body and provides extra cushion. The insulation kept her warm as well. She used to come home from a trip doubting if she would camp again. On our last trip, after sleeping on this pad, she was ready to plan our next camping trip. This sleeping pad allowed her to sleep without pain and has made our entire camping experience more pleasant. Thank you Klymit!

Sometimes luxury is worth a little extra weight

Ive used pretty much every sleeping pad in the Klymit lineup for backpacking. I typically buy lighter weight versions to save space and weight. Recently I did a short car camping trip with my wife and bought this for her. Man... was I jealous!!!! This pad is big.. not too big... but big enough to sleep on VERY comfortably. Its also very warm and does not make those crinkely sounds when you move around like other pads do. I took the pad on a motorcycle camping trip last weekend and have never gotten a better night sleep on the ground. Im going to ditch my ultralight pad and carry this one during colder seasons when backpacking now... it IS worth the extra weight!!

Seems like a good product

Just received this pad. Haven't tested in the field yet. But I've had it blown up for three days in-house and it hasn't lost any air as far as I can tell. It took about 20 breaths to fill as advertised. I'm a bigger guy (6'6" 235lbs) and a side sleeper. I purchased because it was a thicker pad. Advertised at 3". I measure 2 3/4. But having said that, I cannot feel the floor when I lay on it. I've slept on it for about 3hrs total and no sore shoulder or hip either. Now, will this change when outdoors on uneven ground? I'll let yo know when I find out! If not, I'd up the stars and recommendation.

So far I have only slept on this pad 2 nights. I am a side sleeper and I often get cold. This pad is everything I wanted/needed and more. It kept me toasty warm the whole night. I didn't have a problem with hitting the ground when I was sitting or rolling over. Inflation was a breeze and pretty standard for blow up pads. Easy to roll up and only slightly larger than a traditional mummy pad. I am 5'5" and I like having the extra space to roll around. Perfect for car camping. So far I highly recommend this pad.

This product has been great for my use so far. I am primarily a side sleeper and tend to toss and turn at night. This mat is large enough to allow movement without sliding off and gives enough padding to prevent me from getting sore spots at night. The insulation has been good. I have used it around 32 degrees and it kept the cold from seeping in from the ground. I have not used this for hiking so far. My only concern is that this is a little larger than other pads which would add a few extra ounces to your pack.

Back country luxury

I typically use this with my hammock and recently did an overnight where the temperature stayed right at 20⁰ F from dusk till dawn. I never even thought about my backside that night it worked so well thermally. I've also used it on the ground and even indoors. I'm a little over 200 lbs. and mostly a side sleeper and have never been uncomfortable with this pad. I don't know too many people that wouldn't sacrifice a few extra ounces for a good night's sleep on the trail. I couldn't be happier with the quality. The only con would be how many breaths it takes to inflate. That, however, is forgotten as soon as you lie down.

King of Comfort

Expert Recommendation Content Game changer! The most comfortable sleeping pad in every season. The deep V welds permit air to travel during the summer months to keep me cooler...I was able to sleep in Moab, UT in mid-August. The size is wonderful, allowing back, side and stomach sleeping in total comfort. The weight is very doable for shorter backcountry excursions.

I love it!

Expert Recommendation Content This pad is perfect for hammock users who have cool weather in the mornings. The pad fills up a hammock just right and especially keeps you in the horizontal plane. With a 5.0 R-value and the V-chambers for down to fluff out you stay comfortably warm. I have also used the sleeping pad on hard ground and it is very comfortable. It does weigh a bit more at 35 ounces but if you want that extra comfort and warmth it is well worth it!

Heavy but worth it

Sleep seems to be something I struggle to do while camping. Yes I carry this pad when backpacking. But I think it's worth it for the good quality sleep. It's super warm which is important cause I get cold easily. I probably wouldn't recommend this for most backpackers. But since I got it on a deal at Costco I don't have the money for feel it's worth spending more for just a light weight pad. This is about as heavy as my old thermorest and way more comfortable.
