Great “jack of all trades, master of none” kind of pillow

I was biased when trying this out because I typically don’t take pillows while backpacking. I just use my stuff sack of backup clothes to double as a headrest. That approach is the ultimate in weight savings but has a few drawbacks. But I gave this a try and was pleasantly surprised by this pillow because it was easy to use, comfortable, light and compact. It did what it said it would do! I’ve used it car camping and for 3-season backpacking trips with success. Without a doubt, this product DOES have drawbacks but they’re the typical ones that come with self-inflated pillows. It’s SUPER light and as durable as your average pack pillow but not as ultra-ULTRA light. Won’t fit inside most mummie hoods but is big enough that, theoretically, it could be used as a temporary seating pad. The X design really does work though. Mine has lasted for several years…under light use. I don’t see this holding up for heavy, extended use in backcountry though. Similarly, no one using this thing day in and out is going to want the daily struggle of trying to squeeze it back into its tiny stuff sack. But that’s a common occurrence too. I think it’s great and a value for what you pay.

Nice oversized pillow with an outdated valve design and annoying stuff sack

The pillow itself is fine if you are looking for something to keep for car camping or short backpacking trips, but obviously this isn't for someone looking to keep weight as low as possible. Also note that this will most likely not fit into the mummy hood of a sleeping bag if that is what you are looking for. The pillow itself is fine, but the screw valve needs to be redesigned and replaced with the twist and lock valve of the newer Klymit sleep pads. I've already had to do a warranty for a replacement after only 2 months of use. Also, the stuff sack being of the same fabric material as the pillow makes it sometimes difficult to squeeze the pillow in, but that's just a minor annoyance. I would have rated the pillow lower, but Klymits excellent customer service adds a point. I am very grateful for all of their quick help inmy issues, and will be sure to do business with them again, I just hope to see an updated pillow valve design soon. I will update this review if anything changes with replacement pillow.

Great road trip pillow

We bought 2 of these Pillow X Large and 2 of the smaller Pillow X. They pack so small we keep them in the car at all times for use on road trips. The x shape really does help keep your head on the pillow. The X Large version seems to be made of a softer and quieter material that almost seems to have a bit of stretch so I highly recommend going with the large version for this reason alone. Only negative is the inflation valve seems to be restrictive and takes more force and more breaths than you would think (significantly more resistance than the V seat for example). Fantastic road trip out airplane pillow...Would make a pretty good backpacking pillow, but for car camping we really like the large drifter pillows better than anything else we have tried.

Large sized pillow that does it's job well.

I tested this once and will continue bringing it out on my trips this year. Pros: I like the packed size, like a small men's wallet size. It's not very heavy but I don't think it is UL. It is a pretty large pillow. Ive been able to use the valve to "soften" the pillow by letting the air out. Cons: Large size doesn't allow it to fit in my mummy hood. Has that "inflatable" mattress/pillow noise during the night. Slides around on my mat. Good for the price but I wonder if there is better out there - I don't have any other comparisons personally.

Good Space Saver, but slides around when full

Love the idea of the pillow and how compact it is. It is easy to inflate and goes down to a size similar to a deck of cards. My only issue with the pillow is that it slides around on the Klymit Static sleeping pads way too easily. The sleeping pad covers help reduce the slide and so does only filling up the Pillow 2/3 of the way. But hopefully in the next relaunch of the product on side of the pillow can have the grippy plastic coating added. Would easily fix the issue without adding much weight.

Great lightweight pillow

I've used it on plenty of backpacking trips as well as in the field during field exercises. It packs very small and is quite comfortable. I have neck issues and the design of the pillow keeps my head straight throughout the night. I have never woken up with neck pain due to "incorrect sleeping positions". This pillow is also easy to clean. You can adjust firmness by adding or reducing the air inside. Overall, a great camping/backpacking or travel pillow. An ultralight backpacker's dream pillow.

Great Product

This makes nights in the backcountry much more comfortable. Super lightweight and large. While a luxury item (one can always use a rolled up article of clothing), I am super content with carrying the extra 3.5 oz (my weight calculation). I do recommend not to fill to capacity. Also jamming it into the leg of unused long underwear or shirt does make it less slippery.

Klymit XL Pillow

Expert Recommendation Content During a remote backpack trip I used this pillow for the first time. In the past I would use a balled up jacket. I would not leave home without this in the future. The design kept my head in the middle of the pillow throughout the night even with a bit of tossing and turning. Well worth the extra pack weight.

Really nice and small. It’s not the most comfortable pillow of all time but it’s really nice to throw in the pack and have to sleep with on backpacking trips. More comfortable than I expected to be honest and it’s nice that you can just fill it to the amount you desire. Definitely would recommend everyone to keep a few on hand for backpacking trips to save your head and neck at night. So lightweight it doesn’t make a difference so might as well always bring jt

Awkward Pillow

We have two of these. The pillow compresses down rather nicely. You could choose to use the stuff sack or not. We have used them a handful of times and every time we agree it’s pretty awkward for our heads. It’s not the most comfortable fabric, but it does get the job done. However the valve seems to have a leak in it causing the last 2 evenings of life to deflate and no way to repair. So now we are down to 1.

Where's My Pillow?

With this pillow, your head will not roll away and your pillow won't slide out from under your head. Unfortunately, I accidentally got my pillow a bit to close to some holly leaves and it developed a slow leak. With that in mind, it's not as durable as the Klymit sleeping mats, but I recommend this pillow over any I have used for camping. Yes, even the pillow off your bed, the rolled up towel/sweatshirt, and the "packable camp pillow."

This pillow can really enhance the quality of your sleep. No more bag of dirty clothes that slides away at night. Get the XL because it is still half the size of a normal pillow and yet quite light. Not as smooth as a normal pillow, especially if you are a side sleeper, but my fleece jacket addressed that.

Way better field pillow.

I have been using the Snugpak inflatable pillow for months and continued waking up to re-inflate it. The Klymit pillow has paired great with the Static V sleeping pad and had given me some of the best field sleep I have ever had. This is a game changer. The only recommendation I can provide is to make more of a color selection for this pillow, Tan/OD-Green would be great.

As Good as Inflatable can be.

This pillow is great if you need to have something that packs down to nothing. I am sure you didn't expect it to, but it certainly won't be replacing your pillows at home anytime soon--inflatable pillows just cannot be as comfortable as actual ones. Also, keep in mind that while this is the "large" model, this is a piece of UL gear so it is not actually all that large compared to a real pillow.

Not my first pick but happy

I originally wanted the regular sized pillow by Klymit but they were out of stock. This was in stock so i purchased it. This pillow is quite big and comfy. I've learned that if you fill it about 1/2 to 3/4 way full it is more comfortable. The fabric of the pillow also reduces your face from feeling sticky/sweaty on the pillow.

I've tried a number of pillows for camping. I've been using this model for approximately 18 months and have about 60 nights of camping with it. Soft to sleep on and actually does center your head as stated in the ads. NO LEAKS which is huge for me. And the best feature: only 3.2 ounces so I take it backpacking too. Best camping pillow ever!

One of the best air filled pillows I've tried, the indent in the middle gives your head a place to rest when fully inflated instead of constantly pushing your head off to the side. If your in the market for an air-filled pillow cause space is an issue I would recommend. it is not a replacement for a real pillow if you have the room though.

Love my new pillow. Having done the rolled up fleece things for years, I finally decided to try a blow-up pillow. The Klymit X Large has been on bike trips, backpacks and car camping. Love how easy and portable it is. I now know what I am getting every night. Light, easy and super portable.

Comfortable Pillow

This pillow is very light and compact and comfortable. I can change the amount of inflation to make it firmer or softer as needed. There are nice, wide seams around the perimeter of the pillow which seem very strong. I tried a different company's inflatable pillow and it did not last long due to leaking at the thinner seams. I recommend this!

After using this pillow and the V Ultralite SL sleeping pad on multiple occasions, I can honestly say that I can never go back to those packable memory foam pillows ever again. It packs way smaller and covers more of my head. The indent in the middle does a good job at keeping my head centered while I sleep, but I give it a 9 because it often slips off my sleeping pad during the night. Just a slippery fabric I guess :/

Great lightweight creature comfort

This pillow has been a great edition in the last 4 trips I've been one. I used it on an expedition trip, and multiple car camping trips. Its light, very compact, and stabilizes well on the head. I love pillows, so this is always worth the extra weight. Good for novices and experts alike.

My favorite backpacking pillow

This pillow folds small and does a great job keeping my head on it while I sleep, which makes it ideal for sleeping in a sleeping bag. It is my favorite backpacking pillow (and I've tried a lot).

I like how small and light it is and I think it could be super useful for backpacking if you want a bit of head elevation. However, I couldn’t really find a way to make it very comfortable for me. I tried different levels of inflation but couldn’t seem to get it right.

Great camping pillow, packs super small and you barely know it’s there. Having the cover definitely reduces the noise from the pillow material at night. By inflating/deflating the pillow just a little bit at a time you can really tune in the perfect amount of comfort

Comfort Without Cost

I will not leave for a backpacking or hunting trip without it. It’s durable, lightweight, and comfortable. It takes up no room in your pack and after being on the trail for 15 miles it’s nice to lay your head on. A luxury for sure but the oz are worth it.
