Where are you from?

I’m from Angola, Indiana.
What do you do for a living?
I’m a small animal veterinarian, meaning I specialize in the treatment and overall health of common pets like dogs, cats, rabbits, or other small animals.
How did you know you wanted to become a veterinarian?
Growing up we had a family friend who was a veterinarian. He had horses and would let me ride them in exchange for help around his vet clinic. I love all sorts of animals so this was an easy decision; this helped launch me into my veterinary career!
What is something important you wish more pet owners knew or would practice more often?
Nutrition and exercise are extremely important pieces to your pet’s health and longevity. Giving them the proper amount of exercise and play each day, along with a balanced diet, are key to helping your pet live a long and healthy life. Preventative care is also very important — if you notice something is off with your pet, bring them into your local veterinary office to have them checked out. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to their health.
How has ExpertVoice helped you to find amazing products and utilize them in your career? Which are your favorites?
I have purchased all sorts of things on ExpertVoice, from a generator that runs my surgery equipment when the power goes out (yes, this has happened!), to shoes such as my Altra Lone Peaks that keep me comfortable when I’m on my feet all day, and gear that helps me go farther from brands like Black Diamond and Mammut.
I also appreciate how much variety there is on ExpertVoice for pet products. My dogs have skijoring equipment from Kurgo that I love and they love Cuddles natural dehydrated grain-free fish & pumpkin bite-sized cookies from The Honest Kitchen. The brands I typically recommend to friends and pet parents at my office are Royal Canin, Hills, Eukanuba, Kurgo, EzyDog, and Sport Dog. They all carry a wide range of products that will keep your pet healthy and happy.

Tell me more about the herbal/alternative medicine you mention in your bio.
I have a Master’s degree in herbal veterinary medicine through the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies in Australia. I believe that good health begins with a healthy foundation and this is where herbal medicine thrives — these meds can be more gentle on the system than traditional pharmaceuticals and can be used longer term without the significant side effects. I mostly use herbal medicine as an adjunct therapy to traditional Western medicine and consider my practice to be a blend of both worlds.
